Not a lot of Americans are buying vehicles these days, hence the shaking state of the automobile industry. But for those in the market for new automobiles, good fuel economy and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions top their list of required characteristics.
If you are among these few, you are in luck. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a website devoted to helping consumers make better and informed car purchase decisions. By simply clicking the year, make, model, and state of residence, consumers can obtain valuable information such as, Air Pollution Score, Fuel Economy Score, and Greenhouse Gas Score. Consumers can also lookup vehicles by type i.e. SUV, sedan, truck, van etc. This way, a direct comparison can be made between the fuel efficiency of all vehicles of a certain designation. Perhaps, the most exciting capability of the EPA’s tool is the ability it give the consumer to lookup the “Greenest” vehicles ranked according the SmartWay system. These vehicles offer the lowest emissions and provide high fuel economy.
The EPA’s site also provides great tips on improving gas mileage as well as a forum where consumers can share their thoughts and ideas on going green.
