E85 Stations in the US Reach the 1900 Mark
By R. Brown, Web Exclusive Posted Jan. 8, 2009

With the opening of Virginia’s first public E85 outlet, the number of E85 stations in the US hit 1900 according to the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) in a press release posted yesterday. This number represents a 33% growth in E85 fueling stations compared to the same period last year.

Tom Turner of Stop In Food Stores, fuel retailer of the newly installed E85 pumps, expressed appreciation of the fact that this E85 installation represented the first of such in Virginia saying, “We are pleased to own the first public E85 retail location in Virginia and proud to offer a clean alternative transportation fuel.”

Interest in boosting the nation's E85 dissemination infrastructure increased over the past year with the strengthening of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 and pledge by major automobile manufacturers to substantially increase their fleet of flexible fule vehicles (FFV).
